The main rule of interlinking: do not put links for the sake of links. Each of the links should bring benefit and comfort to potential buyers. If the link is put in the wrong place and is not clicked, then this will not affect the conversion or ranking in search results.
It is better to think through the interlinking in advance. Add links systematically, 6-8 per site per approach. Follow the following instructions.
Draw the structure
This point is equally important for new special database projects and 10-year-old sites. Web design trends change every 3 years, usability improves. All to make users feel comfortable. Check if the site is outdated: walk through it through the eyes of a buyer, try to make an order or find the right product. How convenient is it to do this, what can be corrected? Or better yet, entrust the setup to a team of testers. They know exactly how to find the weak points of the site and improve them.
When creating a new structure, think about what exactly your target audience is looking for and help them find the right position as quickly as possible. Ideally, the user should be able to select a product and order it in three clicks. Divide the site in two directions:
- sections;
- main and secondary pages.
The structure should be such that you can go to the basic categories from the main page in one click. It is convenient to draw the site scheme using services. XMind, iMindMap, FreeMind, etc. will do.
Sort pages by importance
Each page on the Internet has a weight. This is a conditional indicator of how significant it is for search algorithms. The higher the weight, the higher the page in search results.
There is no exact formula that would show how this indicator is calculated. But it is absolutely clear that the weight of a page is affected by internal and external links that lead to it. At the same time, each link adds “grams” based on the importance of the resource on which it is located.
Special services help determine the weight of pages. If the site has less than 2,000 URLs, you can do this for free on Page Weight Lite. Download the program, click on the “Get data” button and enter the site address. Do not forget to check the box next to the “Use robots.txt” option. The free version of the program takes a few minutes to work, and the output is the following information:
For sites with more than 2,000 pages, you can purchase the Page Weight Desktop program, or use Screaming Frog, a multifunctional service for scanning Internet resources. We even prepared a topic about this programa large review article so that you don’t miss any of its opportunities.
Now you need to divide the pages into 2 categories:
- donors – here we will place links. As a rule, these by lists are pages with high weight, obtained due to external backlinks and high traffic;
- acceptors – these hyperlinks will lead here. Usually these are pages with low traffic that need to be promoted by keywords.
The same laws of conservation of energy apply here: somewhere it became less, and somewhere, accordingly, more. The link increases the weight of the acceptor and decreases the significance of the donor.
Example 1. The article “How to buy train how to use parasite seo for massive seo gains? tickets” is optimized for a high-frequency query, which is difficult to promote due to high competition. Therefore, it is logical to make the page an acceptor and put links to it from less significant URLs “Buy tickets to Alekseyevka for tomorrow”, “Night train Kharkov”, etc.
Example 2. There are 3 articles in the blog that match the query “What to take on vacation with children”. These are the materials “What food to take on vacation with children”, “Packaging a first aid kit for a vacation with children”, “What to take on a trip with a child”. They weigh little, but are thematically similar. How to correctly interlink such a site? It is rational to combine all the pages into one large text to summarize their weight.
